I downloaded an ISO of Ubuntu 24 but installation failed as an upgrade to Ubuntu 22 and installation failed as a new install. The installation froze on the screen titled "Develop with the best of open source" and I could not proceed and could not start the VM. Ubuntu 24.04 uses the Linux 6.8 kernel. I have Parallels v19.3.0
I installed Ubuntu Server Arm 24.04 first, and then installed ubuntu-desktop. No problems of any kind, including Tools. Parallels Pro 19.3.0
I have the same problem. I tried the suggestion of first install the server version and then apply the desktop. I went for the desktop-minimal version and perhaps that was a mistake as it works in principle, but there are odd errors during systemstart that can't get rid of. If they are serious or not, I have no idea and I think that time will tell. Hopefully will the installation problem be solved by then -- be it Ubuntu or Parallels that is at fault.
I was offered the 24.04 LTS upgrade within my 23.10 VM. It did install successfully. On startup, there are 2 system-networkd-wait-online.service/start delays that resolve after 2 minutes (each) of hanging, and a pd-mapper.service failure message. The desktop does finally appear after the 4 minute delay, and seems to work normally. I assume these login hangs will be resolved with updates of PD and/or Parallels Tools for Ubuntu.
I installed the Parallels 19.4 update, and updated the Parallels Tools in my Ubuntu 24.04 LTS VM. The systemd-networkd-wait-online.service/start delays and the pd-mapper.service failure persist, and along with a sessionc1.scope error during boot. Still, the desktop does appear normally after the 4 minute delay and the error messages.
