Started running out of drive space on my Mac m2 Air 256 GB drive so I moved the pvm file to an external drive. Following the move I deleted the pvm file on the Mac HD, emptied the wastebasket and rebooted the Mac. When I ran the terminal command diskutil list I did not see the expected 56 GB increase in available drive space in the Mac HD. Same result when running the macOS diskutil app.

So question is what do I have to do to recover the 56 GB drive space on the HD from the now deleted pvm file? Such a huge file when I am only using Parallels to run a single Windows app that will never be ported to macOS.

thank you for the interest into my problem - Mike

    Hello,
It seems like the deleted PVM file isn't being properly released by your system. Even though you've deleted it and emptied the trash, the space it occupied might still be reserved.
Here are some steps to try:
    1. Force Quit Finder: Sometimes, the Finder can hold onto files even after deletion. Force quitting it might help.
    2. Restart Your Mac: A simple restart can often resolve temporary system glitches.
    3. Optimize Storage: Use the macOS Storage management tool to optimize your storage and potentially reclaim space.
    4. Check for Time Machine Backups: Ensure that Time Machine isn't using the space for backups.
    5. Use Disk Utility: Run a disk repair to check for any issues with your drive.
If these steps don't work, it's possible that the PVM file was somehow linked to other files or system processes. In this case, you might need to use more advanced disk management tools or contact Apple support for further assistance.
