Hi everyone, I've been having issues with coherence. For some odd reason, the pop-up menus are always hidden BEHIND the window, making right-click context menus or Word/Excel pop-up menus always hidden and un-usable. I have to put windows in fullscreen for menus to work. My setup is: OSX recently upgraded to El Capitan Parallels PRO 11 Windows 10 virtual machine Updates all installed in both OSX and W10. I've tried reinstalling Parallels Tools. Anyone has any idea? This is killing this awesome feature for me Here's an image of the problem I'm talking about:
Me too, but Windows 8.1 Parallels 10 So, the El Capitan should be the reason! And parallels should not be perfectly compatible with El Captan! I met this phenomenon with any apps. (for example, Chrome browser's bookmark pull-down menu, etc) need to fix soon, please.
I don't remember seeing this error under Mavericks or Yosemite, but to tell you the truth I wasn't using Coherence back then. I *just* started using Coherence after upgrading to El Capitan, so I can't confirm this is only an El Capitan issue. Can anyone else confirm that this is an El Capitan issue and wasn't present in Yosemite? Can anyone be kind enough to point me towards where we can log issues or create a ticket for Parallels support? PS: I *DID* upgrade from Parallels 10 to Parallels 11 PRO before upgrading to El Capitan. I bought a yearly subscription and I fully expect this feature to be resolved quickly.
Thank you MasatoO, i'm happy this is not an isolated issue. I too see this behaviour on ANY pull-down / popup menu. Anything that is drawn as an overlay gets drawn under the window most of the time (but not always)
First, I'm keeping to use Parallels 10. In that situation, I used P10 on Yosemite in Coherent mode always, and that was fine. Now I've upgraded to El Capitan (and I've updated my P10 to the latest sub-version, too). no configuration setting changed on P10 VM(Win8.1). MatthewA1 reports P11 has the phenomenon on El Capitan. That's why I concluded to: Parallels 10/11 have a certain pop-up/pull-down menu's compatibility issue with El Capitan under Coherent mode.
I am now having this problem - although it was fine on Friday/Saturday this morning I can't see menus in VS2015. All I have done since it last worked was suspend my Windows 10 VM and put my MacBook to sleep. I have tried rebooting both to resolve the problem, but it still persists. Please fix ASAP! :/
We have been able to reproduce this issue and will make sure it's fixed in the future update. To work around this issue, hide windows taskbar in Coherence.
What if the windows taskbar is already hidden? Also, is this the same issue as being unable to get right-click options to pop-up?
Yes. Windows "start bar" is actually called a "Task Bar". You should hide it from Parallels menu. Yours should probably say "Hide Windows Taskbar". Mine says "Show" because I already hid it. Take a look at the screenshot.
Thanks for the walkthrough. That's annoying...toss up between being able to use Coherence and having the task bar. Boo.
Sorry to re-raise this issue, but the same behaviour is back under macOS Sierra & PD12. It had been fixed, but it looks like a regression happened. How to reproduce : PD12 already installed and to the latest version (12.0.2 -- 41353) Update to macOS Sierra Install Windows 10 1607 using the Development Presets (new VM with W10 Anniversary update (1607) from MSDN ISO file en_windows_10_multiple_editions_version_1607_updated_jul_2016_x64_dvd_9058187.iso) Open the virtual machine in Coherence mode Right click on a file in Windows Explorer : the contextual pop-up menu appears underneath the window. Note : the 'temporary fix' above to hide the windows task bar does work for me, but it's really annoying.
macOS Catalina - Parallels Desktop 16 Pro Same problem! When in coherence mode, in Power BI Desktop i.ex., I constantly have to exit coherence mode in order to see pop-ups. Please fix this
I am noticing this when trying to use SSMS on Mac Sonoma, when I try to open a context menu, whether the task bar is open or not, I am finding that the context menu is displaying behind the SSMS window. This seems to work when I switch out of coherence. A fix for this in Sonoma would be appreciated!
Yep, me too! Why does this happen every release?!! The hide taskbar work-around isn't working around the problem....
I'm seeing this with a windows 11 guest and PD 18.3.2, hiding the taskbar didn't make any difference.
Hello, kindly collect a technical report at the moment of issue reproduction (Help > Send technical data > check "Attach screenshots..." > press Send Report) and send the report's 9-digit ID as a reply to this post.
The new window will be displayed below the parent window, also the popup menu. This problem appeared after upgrading to macOS14. My report id is 433396248.
